SEWER LINE REPAIR : When your main drain, typically in your basement, backs up, it is more than likely your main sewer line. You will have options to either repair or replace the sewer pipe. If you choose to do a Sewer Repair, it is typically a spot repair with no guarantee it won’t happen again in another spot. If you choose to do a Sewer Replacement, you have a few options that are permanent, and you will never have this issue again in your lifetime.
SEWER CAMERA INSPECTION: A trained technician will come to your home with a fiber-optic video sewer inspection camera and use a flexible cable to wind through your home’s pipes to find the cause of your plumbing problems. This technological advancement has changed the game in plumbing and taken the guessing out of it as well. There is no longer a need to take an educated guess or dig up your yard in the hopes of finding the exact location of the problem only to find the first three spots, were not it!
SUMP PUMP: Sump pumps can keep water out of your home, and when they fail, it could cause major damage especially in the basement. Therefore, it is important to make sure that your sump pump is working properly especially before a wet spring of winter.
GARBAGE DISPOSAL: Garbage disposals can stop working for so many reasons, such as age, the motor going out, blades get damaged, or misuse. A garbage disposal can be very dangerous with the blades and electricity tied to it. It is best to leave it to a trained and licensed plumber like the ones we have at About Plumbing to come and repair it.
Water pressure regulators are sometimes called pressure reducing valves. They are used to automatically reduce the high incoming water pressure from city mains to provide a lower, more practical, and functional pressure for home use. This water pressure regulator ensures that the home’s plumbing system and appliances operate safely and effectively with less waste.
WATER LEAKS: If you suspect your water pipes or water lines are leaking and you need a professional plumber to repair the water lines or repair the water pipes, then you can rely on About Plumbing. Our plumbers can detect the damage when called out for any water pipe repairs that are necessary. We want to ensure that the water pipe gets repaired fast and correctly without causing further damage.

PLUMBING TIPS FROM THE EXPERTS
Is PVC and ABS Piping Bad?
“Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) piping were produced experimentally in the 19th century, hit the US in the 1950’s, and is most commonly used in today’s sewer systems. While PVC or ABS pipe can last for decades, the thin-walled pipe can be damaged by inadequate bedding/fill or ground settling and heavy root growth. Once a section of plastic pipe is damaged, the other connections may deteriorate over time or roots will damage another section of the line. This type of piping can last a long time if it is a quality pipe and the installation was done properly. Thinner-walled pipe flexes and is more susceptible to premature problems.”
WATER PRESSURE PROBLEMS?
“Water pressure should be checked at least once a year or whenever you have a plumber in your home. When we visit a doctor, no matter the reason, they will always check a patient’s blood pressure. Water pressure should be treated similarly. A pressure-reducing device in proper working order is incredibly important to maintaining a healthy water delivery system in your home. Water pressure should never exceed 80 psi. Anything reading above 80 psi. is an indication of a failing water pressure-reducing device and should be addressed as soon as possible. If you’re unsure about your water pressure, we can visit your home and use a gauge to measure your incoming water pressure for you. Then we can discuss any options that might be available to give you peace of mind and ensure a healthy water system.”
“Do you have a smelly garbage disposer? Cleaning the disposal is simple! Run cold water, turn on the disposal, and feed two trays of ice cubes into the disposal quickly. Wait until all ice is completely degraded before turning off the disposer and cold water. If the disposer still smells bad, chop up a lemon into small chunks and feed it down the drain.”
DO NOT use drain cleaners such as Drano. This is important! Those types of cleaners are mainly fine sand and bleach, or other caustics, which corrode your plumbing rather quickly and can cut the life of your garbage disposal in half.
